If you use Spotify and have an Apple TV as well, you will prefer to have a native app for your TV box. That's because anyone who has the Apple TV would like to play Spotify through it. However, here’s something unusual. According to a Spotify company executive, the Spotify app for tvOS has been down prioritized and users should wait for its release in near future.
The official did not explain why Spotify is not determined to support the Apple TV currently. The statement came from GitHub’s comment boards, a popular code-sharing website where a customer had asked when to expect the app for the Apple TV. Upon this, Samuel Erdtman, a Product Owner at Spotify said: “Support for tvOS has been down prioritized. You should not expect a release supporting it any time soon. I’m sorry about that."
Why exactly is this happening? It is no secret that Apple and Spotify have not been at the best of terms lately. The main grip Spotify has with Apple is over its terms for in-app purchases for subscriptions. Currently, Apple requires developers to pay 30% of the subscription fees when the purchase is made through the app itself.
While you can stream music to the Apple TV via AirPlay, it does not negate the need for a dedicated app; therefore, you will not have to keep the music tethered to your phone.
